Greeting Card: Make It or Buy It?

by Bob Lubin January 14, 2021
written by Bob Lubin

Today, greeting cards become one of the ways to keep in touch with others. Both individuals and businesses use greeting cards! Individual use the card to maintain their relationship with the people they care about. However, for some businesses, they use cards as a medium to keep in touch with their customers and of course for other business purposes.

To get the cards, there are two alternatives that you can choose for that! The first one is you can go to a stationary store or now there are lots of online websites that will help you get beautiful greeting cards. Then the second one, you can make the card and personalized it. So, which option would you like to choose? The first one or the second one? Or maybe you need to think more about whether to buy it or make it? If that’s what you want to do, maybe a few of the points below will help you make your decision!

1. Individual or Business

As mentioned earlier, greeting cards are used by individuals and businesses/organizations. So, which one are you? Are you going to use the card for individual use or business purposes?

Both individuals and businesses only send the cards when it comes to certain days or special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, or maybe Thanksgiving. So, they don’t usually send the card daily. For individual use, they might just send a few greeting cards even on special days. So, they don’t really need lots of cards. But for businesses, they face the opposite since they have to send cards to their customers or maybe to their business partner as well. We can say that they need more cards.

For some companies, usually, they choose to make their own card as a cost-effective option. Because the more cards they make, the cheaper the price they have to pay when printing the card at a printing service such as greeting card printing in Singapore. However, for individuals who only make a small number of cards, they probably won’t get the cheaper price because they make a small number of cards. So, whether they buy or make the cards, they actually pay for the same price.

2. Considering the Time

So, the next thing that can help you make a decision is you have to ask yourself a few things like when will you need the card? If you think to make it, do you still have time for that? How long does the process of making the card take? Or if your time is limited, can buying a card be faster and be a solution? How long will it take to buy all the cards you need?

Based on the time you have, these are just a few examples of questions you can ask yourself whether you need to buy the card or make it. You can ask more questions on the same topic as long as the key point is about the time.

3. Personalized!

Do you need to do some personalization with your greeting card? That is another question you can ask yourself to help you make a decision. For example, if you are individuals or businesses that want to make a greeting card with some personal touch that can represent you or want to add your brand logo on the card, then you should think about making the card instead of buying it!

Types of Graphic Design. Now and Then

by Harry Ten December 20, 2020
written by Harry Ten

If the think about it, graphic design is evolving in such a speed rate, that we all should follow the pace thoroughly to know all the new elements, innovations and software that is launching to understand it fully.

Of course, for all of us who are just in love with graphic design and stick to one area of it, there’s no need to be an absolute professional in most cases. You just have to understand the basics and exceed at your own pace.

Here are some types and methods that take a huge part of our lives, whether we realize it or not.

Graphic design has a broad range. It offers opportunities for individuals from all walks of life.

  • Motion graphics design – or in on other words “animation”.  It can bring multiple elements to life with specialized software and skills. It is used in TV Shows, video games, movies, advertising, etc.
  • Website design – in the last decade one of the most talked-about topics is website design. It takes a big part of website building, more intuitive pages, loading speed, media representation, text and search engines love when the sites are well-optimized for user experience (UX).
  • User Experience – as we said it above, UX is a top-ranking factor for websites, but it is pivotal in web applications, mobile and smart devices as well. Everybody loves a service or product that is user-friendly, can’t we agree all?

Now graphic designers are advancing in drawing directly on their digital tablets and can create so much easier.  Devices and technology, in general, are pretty well-optimized.

In the past, even 30 years ago it was way more difficult. And we are not only talking that computers were more basic, but their parts and components were weaker than current years.

Before that, people in the 50’s, the ’60s and 70s were drawing all their icons, typography letters and images on paper and they were using way more sophisticate technology to print them and get the design ready for whatever.

Some of the graphic designs were black and white, others were coloured, which was way more difficult in the past, due to the lack of technology. Even the remarkable black and white movies from the past have colourful posters because people were making an actual representation of the real thing.

Whether if graphic design is moving in the right direction, there is no second guess about that. Nowadays is easier than ever to start and give unlimited sources of information to express your creative genius.

Upcoming Graphic Design Trends for 2021

by Sam Vorn November 20, 2020
written by Sam Vorn

Graphic design has been through a lot in recent years. Of course, as 2020 is sliding away, we are preparing for next year.

Let’s see what will be valuable and might come back or pop up in 2021 when it comes to graphic design trends that are going to flood the market. Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Some specialists refer to the following types of graphic design to appear or reappear in the following months. If you are a fan of it you are working in the field, it would be great to keep an eye on everything new that is coming out.

  1. More Advanced 3D Designs

Yes, we know, 3D designs are nothing new but what might be is the representation of it. With software and hardware getting more advanced, we can expect 3D designs on pretty much anything – from TV shows to movies, animation, applications, 3D games, Virtual Reality (VR) and so much more.

In 2021 it is expected 3D to become even more impactful even in advertising. People are starting to love more images and advertisements that coming to life. Be prepared for an interesting year in graphic design.

  • Nature Elements and Packaging

As we are living in a society when more and more people are getting obsessed with living eco-friendly, being vegan and eating healthy snacks during the day, we can proudly predict that designs in packaging are going advance in 2021.

People want to buy products with packages that are more eco-friendly to the environment and that degrade faster, no matter the circumstances. Also, we love the information about the food and facts about how healthy it is.

It is an interesting niche to advance in that type of design and will surely not go out of style soon.

  • Data and Visualization Design

When it comes to being socially aware, people in the last few years love to buy products and services that are eco-friendly to the environment and are giving actual information to the consumer.

Let’s take Apple, for example, they claim to produce their recent devices from recyclable materials and they are cutting from plastic elements in the box with newer launches. Their story is that by doing this they are more conscious about the environment.

True or not, this design and marketing trick is working 100%. Not only they have more pre-orders than ever, but the company is skyrocketing to new heights in the industry.

And last but not least, guys, everything is about design and marketing. The way you present a product is how well you sell afterwards.

Tips And Tricks For Graphic Designers

by Sam Vorn November 11, 2020
written by Sam Vorn

Offering a graphic design service deals primarily with developing ideas into a visual reality. Needless to say, it is never a simple task. With more brands looking for cutting edge graphics, it is essential for graphic designers from beginner to experts to know those things that work and those that don’t.

Every design is a unique platform for you to showcase your ideas, but a few design tips and tricks can guide you through the intricate process. For that reason, here are seven graphic design tips and tricks to help you craft your next remarkable design.

1. Limit the amount of fonts used

Professional graphic designers suggest that you use various fonts through your designs, but they know that one can quickly go overboard. Using lots of fonts might give the human eye a tough time viewing your designs. Try out just about three fonts and see how they blend, but ensure that the total overall font used is under three.

2. Utilize contrasting colors

Unlike charges attract. The sample principle applies to graphic design. The human eye gets attracted to colors that stand out, so let your designs pop by using contrasts. Using contrasting color schemes such as yellow and black will leave an excellent impression on those who see your designs.

3. Use a small color scheme

Again, you don’t need to load your design with a flashy and extravagant color variety. Try focusing on the three primary colors and blend with three additional secondary colors. You can utilize various tones of similar color schemes by regulating the brightness. It is crucial to recall that fonts must stand out relative to the background.

4. Leverage the white space

The white space is an additional advantage. Ever looked at an apple ad and wondered why it appeared so eye-catching and crisp? Most of the credit goes to the white background. If you believe that those crazy fonts and flashy color schemes are not for you, using white space might be an option. It prevents the message you are trying to pass from getting caught up in the web of extravagant colors and imageries, as the viewers will get a clear idea of the focus.

5. Clear and crisp imagery

Taking of imagery, ensure that you select images with high resolution that is ideal for the tone of the design and pleasing to view. Similar to how you can make texts on an image background transparent, you can also adjust the background image brightness to improve contrast further. That makes the texts more legible and pictures more explicit.

6. Apply the hierarchy

Average human attention lasts for about eight seconds, so it is vital to grab the viewer’s attention for as long as possible and direct them to the main idea. Hierarchy in graphic design is all about creating layouts that guide the observer toward the message you are trying to deliver. Use colors, texts, imagery, and other approaches to highlight the important part of your design.

7. Be you

Finally, ensure that you are always seeking inspiration from inside you. At the end of the day, you know what’s best to achieve your goal since you’re the one guiding the design. Trust your instinct.

5 Beautiful Card Stock Alternatives for Invitation Card Printing

by Harry Ten July 20, 2020
written by Harry Ten

There are a lot of different types of invitation card printing in Singapore. They are used for different things. But one thing that’s the same for all of these invitation cards is that they all need to look appealing and, well, inviting. It is important to create a great first impression on your event’s guests, and a great looking invitation card is the best way you can do it.

While it is important to pay attention to the content, typography, colors, and other design embellishments, it is also important to remember to choose a proper type of card stock for invitation card printing.

Many people dismiss the importance of a high-quality card and settle for a cheap one while in fact, the quality of the card stock can really affect the overall look of the invitation card.

So that you don’t make the same mistake, here are some of the card stock types worth considering for your invitation card.

1. Cotton Card Stock

The cotton card stock is smooth to touch, and it is highly adsorbent. It is one of the best choices for laser printing. With this type of card stock, you can make wedding invitations that look elegant, clean, and modern. Moreover, the cotton card stock is photo safe, meaning that it can last a long time in scrapbook and wedding albums for years. There are three colors you can choose for this type of card stock, which are white, ivory, and grey.

2. Linen Card Stock

The linen card stock is another favourite. It looks like linen fabric with a delicate texture. The finish is matte looking and appears like woven linen. Compared to the cotton card stock, there are more color options. However, it is still considerably limited.

3. Canvas Card Stock

This type of card stock for invitation card printing is also textured. The texture on a canvas card stock is more noticeable compared to linen card stock. Don’t worry, this card stock is not thick. In fact, this one is still thin enough to go through even home printers.

4. Parchment Card Stock

The parchment card stock is a semi-translucent paper. With this card stock, your invitation card will have a slightly marbled look with a soft and subtle feel. It isn’t thick, but it can be layered with vellum or cotton card stock if you need more depth for your invitation card. It is great for wedding invitation card as it will create a unique look.

5. Felt Card Stock

If you want a thick card stock, this one is for you. It is less thin than canvas, but thicker than cotton. It feels smooth yet coarse and can even be printed with home printers. Don’t worry, it is still quite affordable especially considering the quality it offers you.

So, have you made up your mind regarding which type of card stock will you choose for your invitation card? Take your time in deciding and make sure you get the most suitable one for your event.

How to Make the Best Flyer for Advertising and Marketing

by Paul Davis April 18, 2020
written by Paul Davis

Advertising and marketing are always needed for businesses of any size, whether run by an individual or even big companies. Advertising and marketing are important to reach out to the target audience, gain customers, and promote brand awareness so that you can win the market against your competitor. For some businesses, the cost of marketing and advertising can be really daunting. Some would rather put more money into the core activities to support their business in the long run. But still, it is important to reach out to your target audience and potential customers.

If this is the problem you encounter, why don’t you consider promoting with a flyer? It might be a small item, but if it is designed and distributed well, a flyer can be really effective and a great tool.

1. Print your flyers professionally

To print your flyers professionally, you need to find a printing service that is reputable and experienced. A printing service that has a high-quality service is very important so that you can get the best flyer possible. This kind of printing service usually has the right printing equipment to produce great flyers according to your preferences and they can produce them in higher quality compared to what you can get with a normal printer. With high-quality flyers, you will look more convincing and professional, heightening the chance of success as you attempt to promote with a flyer. A reliable printing service can complement what your company is lacking whether in terms of skills or resources to produce flyers. At the end of the day, most importantly, printing with a professional printing service can really help you save money and time.

2. Plan effective distribution

A flyer is quite versatile that it can be distributed in many different ways. You can think of a simple distribution method, but you can also go for a unique or different than usual way.

The simplest way of distributing a flyer is by simply handing it to your target audience or potential customer as they pass by. It is most ideal to do this in a high traffic area. You can also send out your flyer through the mail or have them slipped into people’s houses. A flyer can also be given as freebies upon purchases in your store. What you can think of, you can do. Just make sure that it is a suitable way to reach your target audience according to their profile.

Once you have decided on the method, start to calculate the number of flyers you need to print and have them produced right away.

3. Study your target audience

In order to be able to design and execute flyer printing properly, come up with the right plan of distribution, and reach out to your audience right, it is important to first do a proper study of your target audience. It is called focused advertising and it is much more preferable than trying to reach everyone in the market. Different groups or types of people have different preferences and the different right ways to approach. You can’t reach everyone using one design or method of distribution only, so never make it a shot in the dark and plan well always.
